Welcome to the HEART GALLERY OF IDAHO Those of us who have children or grandchildren can hardly conceive of a child sleeping for months in a temporary bed, attending a temporary school and making temporary friends. Unfortunately, for over one hundred thousand young people in the United States, the concept of "family" has been interrupted as well as distorted by neglect, abuse, and abandonment. Many who cannot be reunified with a birth parent begin to trust in the safety and concern of fostering adults, only to realize they cannot stay with that family either. Any emotional or behavioral challenges these children may have as a result of their family history are only deepened by uncertain living arrangements. They need responsible, patient single adults or stable couples--adoptive parents who will show in many ways: "You belong to this family and we will always be here for you." This is where healing begins. As one 12 year old child explained, "It's like my mom has been like rocking me since I was a baby." The Heart Gallery of Idaho is based on a grassroots concept in adoption recruitment that has spread to over 40 states: professional photographers, print labs and framers volunteer their time to create portraits of young people who want an adoptive family. These compelling portraits, combined with personal written messages, are exhibited in a gallery format as well as in digital format on-line. The creators of these stunning portraits are dedicated to capturing your heart with what is unique in each of these children. If you think you could provide that feeling of belonging and "normalcy" a young person longs for, please contact the 2-1-1 Idaho CareLine. Sincerely, Marti Wiser, LMSW Executive Director of SNAPS, Inc., home of Idaho's Wednesday's Child, The Heart Gallery of Idaho and Wendy's Wonderful Kids.
